The Wanaka area has some fantastic walks to suit all abilities and fitness levels. A few examples are:
- Mt Iron Track
An easy 2 hour circuit with a 220m vertical climb to the top, where there are panoramic views over Lake Wanaka and the Wanaka-Hawea basin
- Diamond Lake- Rocky Mountain Track
A slightly more strenuous 2 to 3 hour, figure-of-eight circuit with a 270m vertical climb. This track zig-zags up above Diamond Lake, past several viewpoints out over Lake Wanaka and finally to the summit of Rocky Mountain where there are stunning views down the Matukituki Valley to Mt Aspiring, over Roy’s Peninsula and back across the lake to Wanaka.
- Rob Roy Glacier Track
A longer walk of around 4hrs to a beautiful subalpine basin below the Rob Roy Glacier. This walk starts at Raspberry Creek, the main entry point into the Mt Aspiring National Park, and climbs steadily up through beech forest alongside the West Matukituki River, to emerge at the bushline.
